Healthy, even, glowing skin that reflects a picture of health and vitality – that’s what the majority of our clients are hoping to achieve.
Optimum skin health can be impacted by a number of common skin complications, including dehydration, fine lines, visible pores and rough, uneven texture. Microdermabrasion is an excellent clinical treatment that gently and gradually addresses all of these concerns by utilising abrasive exfoliation.
HOW DOES MICRODERMABRASION WORK?
Using crystals propelled onto the skin by air pressure, microdermabrasion removes up to 30% of the upper layers of skin. The exfoliating action instantly reveals a smoother skin texture which is more receptive to the penetration of active ingredients applied throughout a treatment and in-home care, improving their efficacy.
The used crystals, along with the removed skin cells, are lifted off the skin’s surface via vacuum pressure. In conjunction with the exfoliative crystals, vacuum pressure improves circulation, stimulating the skin’s repair mechanisms to increase production of collagen fibres. This leads to a more thickened dermis. The upper layers of the epidermis are more refined, reinforcing the skin’s barrier function and revealing a healthier skin. Improvements seen after a series of microdermabrasion treatments include:
NOT ALL MICRODERMABRASION DEVICES ARE CREATED EQUAL
Conventional microdermabrasion devices project a direct flow of crystals onto the surface of the skin through a handpiece positioned at a 45° or 90° angle. This leads to variable and unpredictable abrasion, resulting in redness, discomfort, scratching and bruising. The DermaPod Turbo Flow System used at Eastern Skin Therapy resolves these problems by generating a circular, vortex-like motion of the crystals, resulting in a perfectly safe, controlled and even abrasion that can be used to treat sensitive areas.
WHY HAVE MICRODERMABRASION AS PART OF MY TREATMENT PLAN?
There are many advantages to incorporating microdermabrasion treatments into your in-clinic treatment plan:
IS THERE ANYTHING I NEED TO DO AFTER MY TREATMENT?
As with any exfoliating treatment, strict adherence to aftercare, particularly in relation to limiting sun exposure, is paramount to maximise your results and minimise an adverse response.
Aftercare requirements will include:
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A MICRODERMABRASION TREATMENT?
Microdermabrasion is a gradual way of improving skin concerns, and so regular treatments every 1 – 4 weeks are recommended to achieve the best results. A treatment course may require 6 or more treatments. Your clinician will advise you on the best plan to target your concerns at consultation. It is also an excellent maintenance treatment to receive in between intensive treatment courses.
